AUSTIN, Texas — After a jury found 20-year-old Meechaiel Criner guilty of capital murder in the death of his daughter Haruka, Dr. Thomas Weiser delivered an emotional address to Criner and the courtroom on Friday afternoon.
"What can a father say to the one who killed his daughter?" Dr. Weiser begins. "What could possibly make a difference to you?"
"I'll start with something simple: you killed my daughter," Dr. Weiser adds, saying it was almost "too easy" for Criner to do and speculating he was "itching" to do it again.
"Maybe that's why whenever you got kicked out of someplace, you made sure to grab your nylon tow straps and your ropes."
Dr. Weiser also took one issue wiht the prosecution, who told the jury that on the night of her death, Haruka did not prevail. "She was the first victim in which you hoped would be a long run of unsolved murders, so the way I look at it, she won."
